Here are some reasons why Alexander Djiku has yet to report to the Black Stars squad

Injury: Djiku sustained an injury in the final game of the Turkish Super Lig season, which has prevented him from joining the Black Stars squad.
Club vs Country: Djiku’s club, Fenerbahce, wants to observe him for a day or two before releasing him to join the Black Stars camp.
Previous Injury: Djiku had a fracture in a recent match for Fenerbahce, which made him miss out on selection for Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Madagascar and Comoros.

This information was shared by Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Djiku, who played a pivotal role in Fenerbahce’s second-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig, sustained the injury during their final game.

“Alex Djiku is yet to join the Black Stars due to an injury he picked in their final game. The team doctors got in touch with the club, and they communicated that they would want to observe him for a day or two before he joins the Black Stars camp,” Henry Asante Twum explained to Happy FM.

Ghana aims to regain their winning form after a mixed start in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, with one win and one loss in their opening matches. The Black Stars began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in Kumasi but then suffered a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in Moroni.

The qualifier against Mali is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, kicking off at 19:00. Following this, Ghana will face the CAR at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, June 10, 2024.
